Thanks for coming to the Build Our Nest page for Olander School for Project Based Learning! Our goal is to raise $10,000 this year. This is not an easy task, but when we all come together, the donations add up.

PTO’s plan is to put as much money as possible towards new tech gear this year. Our goal is to help fulfill the vision of the Olander staff and equip classrooms with the following 21st Century technology:

The chalkboards of tomorrow. This keystone piece of technology measures 62x46” and is the interactive focal point of the classroom. It’s a cross between a projection screen run from a laptop computer and a write/wipe board. It allows for real-time activities and multi-media presentations spanning all subjects.

ELMO Document Cameras

This piece allows teachers to present printed work onto the SMART Boards. It helps sharing textbooks, handouts and student work by projecting it onto the screen.

4th and 5th grade are the first grades to have these in the classroom this year, as well as 3rd grade intermittently. Purchasing more laptop notebooks for Olander students to increase computer skills is essential for 21st Century learning.

This equipment is very expensive, and unfortunately, even if we make our goal PTO won’t be able to buy all equipment for all classrooms. But we can make a start! Grant proposals are also being written by staff in hopes of getting even more funding.

And of course, PTO will still fund more traditional school needs and wants. A few ways we spent money last year include new stepped reading books for 1st and 2nd grades, purchasing Counseling curriculum and starting a Book Room for the teaching staff to share classroom readers of various levels. Your money will go toward teacher requests like these as they come up throughout the year. We fill in the gaps where school funding falls off.
